The Sežana College of Materials Design (VSOM) has received accreditation!
The Council of the National Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Quality in Higher Education (NAKVIS) granted accreditation to VSOM at its meeting on March 21, 2024, marking a major step forward in the development of education in the field of materials design. The school’s founder is Inkubator d.o.o. Sežana, which also provides the facilities and equipment for the ŠC SK Sežana Higher Vocational School. The school has been operating on its premises since 2008 and supports the development of vocational education in the region.
Support from local and professional institutions for VSOM accreditation
It is particularly gratifying that the establishment of VSOM was supported right from the start of preparations by numerous municipalities in the Primorska region—including all those in the Karst and Brkini regions—as well as by major professional institutions at the national level and abroad, and by a truly impressive number of companies and individuals from the broader creative industries sector. This support also extends to the school’s first study program, Material Design, which combines general engineering and design knowledge and skills with expertise in material design, 3D design, and jewelry design, which students will acquire at the school and through professional internships in companies.
The Process of Obtaining Accreditation for the Sežana College of Materials Design
The preparatory group, led by Dr. Lucija Čok, included the following members:
- Dorijan Maršič, Director of Inkubator d.o.o. Sežana,
- Jelena Uršič and Jasna Klančišar, Principals of the Sežana Higher Vocational College,
- Tomaž Vadjunec, Professional Associate,
- Anton Marn, Dean of VSOM.
To submit the accreditation application, we prepared and obtained more than 100 documents. With these, we demonstrated to the National Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Quality in Higher Education that we have a clearly defined structure, vision, and development plans for the school. We have also secured suitable and well-equipped facilities and developed a high-quality study program. The faculty consists of experts in the field of material design. Our initiative has received broad support at the local, national, and international levels. We have also secured placements for professional internships.
The Future of VSOM and New Study Opportunities
A great deal of work has been done, especially for a relatively small working group. However, we are firmly committed to investing much, much more in the coming months and years. Across all areas of VSOM’s operations. All with the aim of successfully welcoming the first group of students in October 2025 to the Materials Design program, followed by many more in this and other study programs. Thanks to the widespread support, I am confident that studying in Sežana will be a pleasant and professionally conducted experience, and for companies in the Primorska region and across Slovenia, it will also be crucial in developing young, creative professionals who will represent a competitive advantage for the Slovenian economy in the global marketplace.
