A key step toward the school’s development and the approval of its first degree program
We are pleased to announce that on May 23, 2024, at the premises of the founder INKUBATOR d.o.o. Sežana, we held the constituent meeting of the Senate of the Sežana College of Materials Design (VSOM). The meeting was chaired by the acting dean, Mr. Anton Marn. At the meeting, the founding documents and the first study program were adopted, marking an important step in the process of establishing and operating the college.
The following were elected to the VSOM Senate, from right to left: Dr. Aleš Lipnik, Dr. Martina Paradiž, Anton Marn, Jasna Klančišar, Dr. Luka Jančič, Uroš Hohkravt and Dr. Aleksander Horvat, who unfortunately was unable to attend the meeting.
During the process of establishing and launching the school, following the successful acquisition of accreditation from the National Agency of the Republic of Slovenia for Quality in Higher Education – NAKVIS and the decision received on May 8, 2024, regarding the entry of VSOM into the court register, we constituted the Senate, thereby completing the formation of the school’s governing bodies. We are now focusing on the preparation of study, research, and other programs.
Acting Dean of VSOM, Anton Marn, and the director of INKUBATOR d.o.o. Sežana (founder of VSOM), Dorijan Maršič, emphasized: “The establishment of VSOM is the result of the hard work and dedication of the working group led by the chair of the expert council the Educational Development Center (an internal organizational unit within the company Inkubator d.o.o. Sežana) Dr. Lucija Čok, who, with her professional work and extensive experience, made a significant contribution to the school’s accreditation. We would also like to extend special thanks to our colleague Tomaž Vadjunec, a research associate at the Educational Development Center, and the entire team of professors for their dedicated work.”
By the end of May 2024, we will submit an application to NAKVIS for the accreditation of our first study program – Material Design. We are confident that this program will make a significant contribution to the development of knowledge and skills in the field of materials design and will strengthen links between education, the creative cultural sector, and other economic sectors in the region, Slovenia, and Europe.
VSOM students in the Materials Design program will be able to choose between two specializations:
- The Stone Design track enables in-depth exploration of natural materials and their design potential. The focus is on geology (petrology), knowledge of mineral materials, and techniques and technologies for designing and processing stone. This program is of great interest to the job market, as natural materials are becoming increasingly valued in the creative cultural sector (CCS) and other economic sectors due to their sustainability (sustainable development) and high aesthetic value.
- The 3D Design track focuses on computer-aided three-dimensional design. Students engage in-depth with CAD, CAM, and CAE technologies, which equips them to work in various industries where the need for innovative solutions and advanced design skills is on the rise. This track offers exceptional opportunities for developing individual potential in the creative industries, which are of key importance in the modern economy.
Professional internships in the 2nd and 3rd years allow students to apply their knowledge in real-world work environments. In doing so, they gain valuable experience and establish connections with potential employers. The program concludes with the defense of a thesis. In this way, students combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience in the field of design.
