FIRST-CYCLE PROFESSIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION STUDY PROGRAMME – MATERIALS DESIGN
Application and enrollment
The professional higher education study programme Materials Design combines technical and artistic knowledge with an emphasis on innovative approaches to designing various materials. The programme is designed interdisciplinarily with the aim of equipping students for creative and technologically advanced product design using natural and artificial materials.
In the first year, the study programme is unified, while in the second year students choose between two study programmes:
Stone Design – focused on traditional and contemporary stone-processing techniques, the use of digital tools, sustainable design, and the preservation of cultural heritage;
3D Design – focused on contemporary digital design methods, 3D modelling, prototyping, and the use of advanced technologies in product prototyping and design.
Sežana College of Materials Design announces the first-cycle professional higher education study programme Materials Design for the 2026/2027 academic year, with the study programmes Stone Design and 3D Design.

Duration of Study
The professional higher education study programme Materials Design lasts 3 years or six semesters and comprises a total of 180 ECTS credits.
Place of delivery of the study programme: Sežana, Kraška ulica 2 and Cesta na Lenivec 21.
Admission requirements
Applicants may enrol in the professional higher education study programme Materials Design if they have passed the final examination in any four-year secondary school programme, the vocational matura, or the general matura.
Applicants must pass an aptitude test for the Materials Design study programme.
If a decision on limited enrolment is adopted, candidates will be selected based on:
– performance in the aptitude test (60% of points),
– general academic performance in the general matura, vocational matura, or final examination (20% of points),
– general academic performance in the 3rd and 4th years of secondary school (20% of points).
Aptitude Test
The aptitude test for the Materials Design study programme assesses various characteristics that help determine whether a candidate has the basic abilities and potential for successful work in the field of design. The key characteristics assessed by the committee are:
- drawing and visual skills,
- creativity and innovativeness,
- spatial reasoning,
- design sense and sense of aesthetics,
- technical precision and ability to execute,
- ability for analytical and conceptual thinking,
- motivation and commitment to the field of design,
- manual skills and sense for materials.
The aptitude test for the Materials Design study programme in the first application period will take place between 29 June and 3 July 2026 at VSOM, Kraška ulica 2, Sežana.
If, after the completion of the selection procedure in the first application period, places are still available in the study programme, the aptitude test for the Materials Design study programme in the second application period will take place between 7 and 10 September 2026 at VSOM, Kraška ulica 2, Sežana.
A successfully completed aptitude test is valid for the current and the following academic year.
Mode of Study
Sežana College of Materials Design offers full-time and part-time study. The admission requirements are the same for both modes of study.

Materials Design – professional higher education programme: 32 full-time / 16 part-time
Students enrol in a unified programme in the first year.
APPLICATION FOR ENROLMENT IN A HIGHER YEAR
Enrolment in a higher year is carried out based on the criteria for transfers between study programmes and in accordance with the conditions for recognition of previously completed study obligations.

ENROLMENT IN THE 2ND YEAR
When progressing to the 2nd year, candidates are assigned missing academic requirements that must be completed in order to continue their studies in the professional higher education study programme Materials Design.
Before taking examinations from the second year, they must complete bridging exams from first-year subjects of the professional higher education study programme Materials Design. More detailed information is available at Sežana College of Materials Design.
